Problem Solved!
So far, this year is looking like the exact opposite of last. I wore heavy cotton brocade in July. The temps that day were MAYBE low to mid 70’s. This past weekend, temperatures soared to the upper 80’s, and this weekend–originally forecasted to be in the low-to-mid 70’s–is now looking like it’ll be as hot, if not hotter.
The bottom line: I need hot weather garb.
I have some peasant-y stuff I could wear. I also made a nice middle class aubergine doublet and skirt out of a heavy wool. The wool was tolerable last weekend, for the most part. Mayfaire is set in a heavily-forested park. But some of the events I attend have little shade, and I am so not into getting heat stroke. I need something cooler. I need something made out of 100% linen.
Yesterday, while I was checking out links for my Elizabethan Jacket page, I stumbled upon this image:
This is my answer. Jacket. Silk petticoat. Perfect for those muggy mid-summer days.
Don’t crucify me….I’m going to machine embroidery it. To embroider it by hand would take eons. I don’t have eons. Silverleaf Renaissance Faire starts July 10.
I’ve already draped a pattern and cut the front and side panels. I also sewed the front to the front-sides so that the embroidery will be continuous. One note about the pattern: Most of the patterns I’ve found online have no seam at the front side. Mine does. You can deduct 50 Authenticity Points from me. I like my clothes to fit, and I have unique fitting issues. My problem. With the machine embroidery, this garment isn’t going to be The Great Authentic Masterpiece anyway. It’s going to be practical and lovely. Those are my priorities. If you care to follow my progress, I’ll post pix.

- Elizabethan Blackwork Jacket--Almost There!
